Our little Community held another lively Board meeting last Saturday morning, with lots of positive and innovative reports. Pioneer and Elder of our Neighborhood: Earl Wilbert, asked the Board to consider renovating the current Historical account of our Community - which Earl wrote in the 1980’s - and updating it to present times. Mary Helen Tuttle and Teresa Sitz eagerly agreed to work on this project together; so with those two go-getting Ladies on board, this is going to be a wonderful thing. Thanks, Earl; jolly good idea!
Immediately following the meeting, Jasmine Gutierrez from Pacific Clinics, assisted by her colleague Joe, gave a ‘Suicide Awareness’ presentation. It was a powerful message and important questions were raised; addressing a tragic trend in our Society. Many thanks to Jasmine and Joe for driving all the way out here; we really appreciate you!
Pacific Clinics’ Starlyn Eckerman facilitated our first “Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder” support group, last Tuesday. She did a fine job, guiding us through the intricate and varied rhymes and reasons concerning PTSD. It became apparent that some of us were not sure we had the disorder, but when causes and symptoms were discussed, we realised these described our experiences. It’s almost a relief when you discover why you have terrifying nightmares; startle at every sound; suffer from anxiety attacks, or other symptoms of PTSD. There is definitely hope; ways to work through the symptoms and lead a positive, productive life. Our next get-together is on Tuesday, October 28th, 2014 at 6pm; I encourage you to join us.
Tonight, we’re holding our splendiferous “Movie Under the Stars” Night; showing “Tarantula”! This creepy Desert sci-fi thriller was shot locally; starts around sunset, at Copper Mountain Mesa Community Center. We’re serving hot and not dogs, all the fixin’s; also popcorn; bring a chair!
After the movie; we should carpool to The Palms in downtown Wonder Valley; where the Sibleys are playing tonight; yay!
Next Saturday October 25th, our monthly Potluck Party begins at 4pm: Halloween is the theme! Thanks and kudos to Mary Koval and daughter Chris for their enthusiasm. Stay well, Neighbors!
