Hi-Desert Star Column #196

Our little Community first Saturday Breakfast is from 8-11 this morning and coincides with the second weekend of the Art Tours. So cruise on over; enjoy an utterly splendiforous Brekkie, lovingly prepared and served by our all-Volunteer Crew, then admire the amazing Art on display throughout the Morongo Basin.

Please visit the Copper Mountain Community College Student Art exhibit; showing, throughout November, at the Glass Outhouse Gallery in Wonder Valley; east of Adobe road and Utah trail, on Highway 62. Our reception, with snacks and beverages, runs from 1-5pm today, so come on over and meet all of us!

The Potluck Party was held last Saturday at the Community Center and Chris van Nortrick went all out, making special Halloween decorations; as well as setting up tables with spooky tablecloths and napkins. Chris brought Pea Salad, cupcakes and orange punch; while Mary Koval whipped up an enormous crockpot of Tamale Pie, with key-lime and orange-sickle pies for dessert. Dyan Carroll brought Salmon patties, coleslaw and Ghostly Jello; while Dorothy Jacobsen brought Hong Kong Chicken and Brownies. Susie Gardner brought her Orange Chicken and I brought Butternut Squash. What a feast we had!

Last Tuesday, October 28th, a number of us gathered for the Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder group session. Our group keeps growing and we discuss issues that are normally not acceptable in polite conversation. Some of the stories shared would give an inexperienced listener PTSD! For us, it’s comforting to share our issues with each other; to seek common ground; feel accepted and understood by people who have experienced similarly traumatic situations. Our next get-together is on Tuesday November 18th, from 6pm. As Veterans Day and Thanksgiving both fall in November, we will only have one PTSD meeting this month. Please join us; both military and civilian PTSD-sufferers are welcome.

Next Saturday, November 8th: the CMMCA Board meeting will begin at 10am and will focus on concluding our fiscal year; after which we will enjoy a light lunch. The Annual General meeting follows at 12.30pm; during which candidates for the Board Member seats will be voted in. Stay well!
