Hi-Desert Star Column #256, January 2, 3016

Our little Community Breakfast is happening this Saturday January 2nd, 2016 from 8 - 11 a.m. Our first monthly Brekkie of the New Year and a chance for Copper Mountain Mesa Volunteers to show all our Neighbors how much we love You!

Can you believe it’s 2016? Last year went by so quickly; faster than a speeding dust storm! I intend and hope to graduate from Copper Mountain College at the end of Spring 2016 semester; which is absolutely incredible! I’ve applied to 8 different California State and University of California campuses. I want to get my Bachelor’s degree in Communication with emphasis on environmental and media studies; after which I want to make documentaries to save the Earth, the children and all the animals! Idealistic: moi?

I hope 2016 is a marvelous year for you too. A year in which you can attain your goals and realise your dreams. Take it from me, attending Copper Mountain College is a wonderful path to improving the mind, while finding purpose and direction in life. If you have ever thought about taking classes, do it: there are so many possibilities waiting for you! Happy New Year!

Our monthly Community Association Board meeting will take place next Saturday, January 9; from 10am. We look forward to seeing you and hearing your helpful and constructive comments on how to make our beautiful Neighborhood even more splendid.

Are you concerned about ORV Routes on CSA roads in your neighborhood?
The BLM (Bureau of Land Management) is evaluating where and whether to put ORV (off-road vehicle) routes in residential neighborhoods adjacent to private property. Come to a WEMO Route Letter-Writing Drop-In and we'll help you identify proposed routes near your house on the maps; fill out the minimization form and write your letter to the BLM. This is all happening on Saturday, January 16, 2016; from 9:00 a.m. - Noon,  at the Copper Mountain Mesa Community Center, 65336 Winters Road, North Joshua Tree, California. This event will be hosted by our very own Teresa Sitz, who is an absolute wealth of information and a brilliant gem in our Community. Stay well!

We had a wonderful breakfast on Saturday!

Mary Helen and Steve Tuttle, the patron saints and caretakers of the Copper Mountain Mesa Community Center, have taken a well-deserved vacation and left the store in the hands of the kids: the Board of Directors of the Copper Mountain Mesa Community Association. You know the old saying, "When the cat's away, the mice will play"? Well, we took advantage of their absence to try a few new things at breakfast. Kip Fjeldt made oatmeal last week. Dave King and Annelies Kuiper are still busy grating potatoes for homemade hash browns. Teresa made the biscuits and is still trying to measure up to Mary Helen's.

Here are some pics of happy customers from last Saturday's breakfast.

Greg Bevington and Jim Kaplan from Wonder Valley, and
(So sorry I don't remember your name on the left) and Nora Rolf on the right.
Journalist Lauren Ell and publisher of The Raven Journal Rohini Walker.
Once breakfast was over, Jack Kennedy, one of my favorite customers put the painting below in my hands. Jack commissioned the painting from Frank Mezget who lives and works at The Glass Outhouse Gallery. It's of the Copper Mountain Mesa Community Center. Jack, THANK YOU! That's SO super kind!
